The Rookie is an American TV series on the TV channel ABC. Its genre is described as police procedural and drama. The show has a 68% rating on the popular TV series and movies review website Rotten Tomatoes. The series was created by Alexi Hawley for the TV channel ABC. The Rookie started airing on ABC on October 16, 2018. In May of 2019, ABC renewed the TV show for a 2nd season and in October of that same year, the 2nd season started airing.
The Rookie follows John Nolan. John Nolan is a man in a forty five year old man who is newly divorced. He is from Pennsylvania, he used to be an owner of a construction company. He has a son in university. He helps some police officers during a bank robbery. Then moves to Los Angeles in order to pursue a new character as a police officer in the Police Department of Los Angeles. He finds himself becoming the oldest rookie at the Los Angeles Police Department. This new career is challenging, but John Nolan is dedicated and determined to be successful in this new career field even though it can be challenging at times. We see The Rookie, John Nolan, who is an unhappy, divorced, middle aged father who chases after his dreams and perseveres no matter what.
With the TV series The Rookie, the audience gets to see a man who is in the police force and the difficulties he is facing and also gets to see an everyday middle aged man who is struggling to find his footing in life.
John Nolan’s first days on the job require him to go to a domestic dispute. The domestic dispute quickly escalates and Nolan witnesses his first death. This is not the only problem Nolan will face, as the Sergeant Wade Grey tells Nolan that he will do everything he can in order to discourage him from continuing to serve because he fears Nolan’s lack of experience and old age is going to endanger the lives of his officers. Nolan responds with saying that he believes being a police officer is what he has to do in life.
As days progress, Nolan gets to do all kinds of different tasks, persuading a woman not to commit suicide, chasing a group of thieves, ride alongs, et cetera. As the audience follows this man’s adventures, they get to see a whole new perspective in the badly reputed policework, and the Los Angeles Police Department painted badly in crime TV shows.
The Rookie portrays a man who chooses to start over and make a life altering choice to do what he dreams of doing and has dreamt of doing for some time now. People deem him as just being on a mid life crisis and wanting to do something fun and different with his life. And the audience gets to see the true John Nolan. Is it really just a phase or is he chasing after his dreams?
